We have been open for 2 whole weeks……

Our Launch Weekend..

So we’ve been open for 2 whole weeks now, what does it all mean? What are we trying to do here? Well – we’ve already started listening to your requests and altering things to hopefully make the Institute better.

We understand that lots of you thought that we had set our drinks prices a little on the high side. This was mainly because we chose not to subsidise the bar through door entry like lots of other bars which means we can get away with only charging £2/3 on Fri/Sat for national and international acts. We wanted to keep most entertainment free. We accept it was a mistake to choose so many premium drinks brands, this didn’t leave you with much mid-range choice. So – we listened and, thanks to your feedback, by the month of December our draught selection will include some mid-price options probably Becks or Redstripe.

We’re installing some dimmers to get the lighting just right- it’s still a bit bright on some nights for our liking and we will continue to tweak and change things each week including sorting out the upstairs “common room”.

We want you to know that we are trying support and nurture the best promoters in the city; giving them the opportunity to put on acts they want to see,and keeping the door price low. As far as we know – we are the only venue to offer this unique opportunity and we are keen to celebrate the best talent Cardiff has to offer, this is one of the reasons why we have our Manifesto.

This is just the start of our journey, we feel it’s a good start but we are happy for you to tell us how we should do it better…. It’s always difficult starting something different and trying to instigate change. People are scared of originality, it fucks up their formulas, it’s not a marketable concept.

We STILL aim to:

  1. Offer a platform to encourage collaboration, participation and activity.
  2. Stimulate and innovate in our city.
  3. Forever evolve.
  4. Help make it happen.
  5. Discover new ways of thinking through interaction, communication and union.
  6. Nurture and celebrate new talent.
  7. Use no artificial colours or preservatives.
  8. Stay up late and break the rules.

good news about the mid-price options, Red Stripe would be v welcome. think you still need to look at the non-alcoholic side as well, for the occasional non-drinkers/drivers – I paid £1.80 for half a pint of diet coke at the first flux/rad which was very harsh. you should also ensure coffee and tea is available and not switched off with the food – lovely bar chap helped me out on that one and made me a lovely coffee…

Sorry, what formulas exactly are you fucking up? This is all getting a bit pretentious to be honest

Was that the only bit you read? Thanks for your contribution.

Have you been in there? Pretentious isn’t the word. Complete bollocks might be closer to the mark

  3. Jonesy

Why did you remove my post saying the place is complete bollocks? I was just expressing myself and pushing my boundaries?

    1. The Heat

Didn’t remove it flower just needed to approve it is all. Deep breath.

There are two kinds of bollocks out there Big Bollocks and Small Bollocks, We are the type with Big Bollocks who are going to stick to our guns and do what we think is best. Have we been called pretentious before ?!? Yawn! YES! Anything we have done that contains the word ART in the title. Has MILGI been dubbed pretentious YES! has Secret Garden Soundsystem and Secret Carnival been dubbed pretentious YES! It’s funny because so many others have now followed the path we have already trodden. Somebody has got to make the footsteps in the snow and that will always seem to be pretentious. I am sorry you don’t like the venue. If you have any ideas on how you would have done it or if you could articulate your comment further on why you think it’s bollocks or pretentious then please feel free to express your opinion. Personally I feel the venue is not for you and that there are plenty of other venue’s out there that would love your custom but then what would we know?

It most likely won’t be any of our collective adventures:
