We at Juju Nations & Ba-Ba-Boom! have been having great times bringing afrobeat bands based in the UK to Cardiff Arts Institute. Here we go one step further putting on a band from Senegal only in the UK for two months recording their latest album. Sadio Cissokho and his band play thundering sets for hours way into the morning in the clubs of Dakar, Senegal’s capital. We get that energy distilled into a one hour midnight set aimed straight at the dancefloor. West African bass grooves, Sadio playing his Griot Kora, and Casamance drum kit sounds bring this to life.
Sadio Cissokho delivers his music straight from the Casamance region of Senegal exporting fierce sabar drum patterns and the national dance style of mballax. Griot kora master Sadio Cissokho was born into a musically famous Jali family which have functioned as carriers of history and tradition in the Southern region of the country for over 700 years. His enchanting Mandinka struggle songs are accompanied by solid West African bass grooves bound by the forceful Casamance drum kit sound bringing the experience of modern Senegal directly to you.
Support on the night comes from one of Cardiff’s greatest emerging funk/soul bands, The Sweet Spots, with original soul dance tunes mixed with selected covers.
DJ support from Ba-Ba-Boom! and Juju Nations keeps us going til 4am.
