Higher Learning presents ‘Zeitgeist: Moving Forwards’ Launch Party

“there are some things in our world, there are some things in our nation to which I’m proud to be maladjusted, and I call upon all men of goodwill to be maladjusted until the good society is realized.” Martin Luther King

For me Hip-hop has always given an alternative view of society. Rappers gave me insights into ideas, theories and philosophies that I wasn’t getting in mainstream culture. This is largely because it was grown out of societies which had been failed by the proponents, or perhaps perpetrators of mainstream culture. So it is no surprise really that when an answer to the various problems that have been caused by the way our world is being run is suggested, that it would gain a sympathetic ear in the Hip-hop community.

To coincide with the showing of the latest Zeitgeist film (‘Moving Forwards‘ see separate post), Wales’ most respected Hip-hop night, Higher Learning, has teamed up with Cardiff’s Chapter of the Zeitgeist Movement to bring you a night of forward thinking Hip-hop artists.

RUFFSTYLZ
Building his reputation slaying cipher circles in London with a jagged and developed style that can truly rate amongst the most original and skilled lyricists in the world. Now based in Cardiff, he is a well respected member of the Higher Learning and Associated Minds families. In 2009 he broke his own World Record, Freestyling for 17 hours and has received praise from the likes of such underground stars as Prince Po (Organised Konfusion), El-P and Gift Of Gab (Blackalicious).

MING
Ming is a musical force of nature powered by roaring fire. Whether making Dubstep or bass heavy mutated Hip hop, his special brand of music always carries a signature difference – an alive and kicking spirit of rebellious revolution. A healthy disinterest for music without life and life without heart acts as the motivation for tracks that either sound like the cause of the apocalypse or a soundtrack for the afterparty.

JUGGANOTE
JuggaNote’s aim? To put on a performance like no other, combining live instruments with hip hop’s more conventional outputs. Keeping the fun loving old school vibe alive whilst maintaining credibility by addressing current issues on the state of the world today. They’re on a mission to be as high impact and intense as possible whilst continually growing and progressing as musicians, as a band and possibly a collective? To instigate, inspire and encourage change.

We also have B-boying from 2Dynamic and much more amazing music played on the decks from me (Kaptin)
