The tenth Wales One World Film Festival opens in Cardiff’s Chapter Cinema on Thursday 3rd March with the Welsh Gala Premiere of Patagonia, Marc Evans’ beautiful meditation on culture, roots and identity. Director Marc Evans, leading actress Nia Roberts and Duffy will be present for the premiere.
“WOW puts films like Patagonia in a wider context and helps us make interesting global connections outside the Anglo-American system. Basically it’s an excuse to bring together a heady, eclectic mix of stuff and a small country like Wales has proved to be the perfect venue for such a world party! We’re very glad to be part of it.”, says Patagonia director Marc Evans.
Wales One World Film Festival exists to celebrate world cinema in all its richness and diversity, and to give people throughout Wales the chance to see the best in world cinema. Screening 16 Welsh premiers and 2 UK premieres, this year WOW is celebrating its tenth anniversary with a focus on the best of recent Chinese and Mexican cinema.
Among the 16 Welsh premieres being screened at the festival, there are two joyful celebrations of the power of music to change people’s lives. The heart-warming Fezeka’s Voice, about a South African school choir, and, Benda Bilili!, the inspiring story of a band of disabled street musicians from Kinshasa that was the toast of last year’s Cannes Film Festival.
