No Sweat returns for another week of acoustic gorgeousness. Tonight we have a special acoustic duo set from Magpie Instinct and a solo set from Cardiff legend and D’Taba front-man, Chico. Pull up a chair and chill your beans. You deserve to not sweat at least one day a week… 

Magpie Instinct are a 4 piece Indie band looking to make an impression on the Cardiff music Scene this Autumn. A mix of the triumphant jangle of The Smiths and The Las, the quirkiness of The Coral laced with the dreamy influence of the Cocteau Twins sets a soundscape to a melancholic wit reminiscent of Meursault, Morrissey and Adrian Mole. Songwriting duo Tim Cox and Hugh Everett perform this acoustically all for your listening pleasure.

Yes, that’s right folks, the mighty Oxjam Cardiff music quiz is back and we have the bestest prizes EVER!!! (maybe)

Come along to Cardiff Arts Institute this Wednesday and exhibit your musical brain whilst also raising money for charideee! We’ve got a live guess the intro round, courtesy of your favourite local party band Salvation, plus guess the sample, guess the scream, a classic picture round and of course some general musical quizzery.

The evening will be hosted by CAI’s Mr. Music Geek Monthly, Andrew Jones! He won the quiz last year, so who better to test your musical knowledge?

We’ll have a live set from Salvation at the end too, so we’ll have a little dance shall we?

THE BLACK ATLANTIC

The Black Atlantic is the Groningen, The Netherlands based folk-pop band formed around singer and songwriter Geert van der Velde. Their music is an ambient mix of acoustic instruments; repetitive piano, softstrummed guitars and gental percussion, relying heavily on multi-layered vocal harmonies. Repetition of deep and introspective lyrics sung through quiet harmonies make for a meditative listening experience. Think Bon Iver, Sigur Rós or Fleet Foxes… lovely.

Hailing from the charming Cornish town of St Austell, Backbeat have been smashing up the live music scene across the UK, enjoying tours and the festival circuit. We laso have our top selectors, DJ Jaffa and Natty Slow as well as special guest John Rea, a staple of the Welsh music scene and the man behind the classic Sunday Reggae nights in Mrs Browns Caribbean Restaurant back in the day.
