I forgot to blog about this because last week was, well, stupidly busy. BUT… it was so awesome. If you missed the show then tune into Bethan’s Radio 1 show in a couple of weeks where she’ll have two session tracks from the band that are equally breathtaking.

But yeh, for some reason I have a desire to post this here…

FIVE AWESOME THINGS FROM BALTIMORE.

5. Dan Deacon – Incredible music, utterly mad live show and just all round genius.

4. Ponytail – Flipped out jams, brilliantly thought out in everyway, entirely idiosyncratic and awesome.

3. The Wire – The best thing I’ve ever watched on telly (apart from Arrested Development).

2. Beach House – Hi guysssh… I love you.

AND… drum roll…. at number one…

1. Ace of Cakes – Just… wow.

Little bit upset cos Beach House has sold out and you can’t get intimate with Victoria Legrand and Alex Scally on Feb 16th? Well, give thanks to writer Laura Snapes who is putting 4 tickets up for auction in aid of the Haitian earthquake relief fund. Money raised from the auction will be donated to ShelterBox - to aid their efforts for Haiti. The auction finishes at 20:41 on 3 February. Go on, see Beach House while donating your hard-earned to a good cause – you’ll feel all lush and bubbly.

The flicker of fairy lights. The taste of a forest on a wet day. The sound of a backroom deep in a David Lynch dream. Harbour boats bobbing on a slow tide. An empty armchair letting slip the secret of a past owner. Hope Sandoval lounging on a carousal, legs swinging over the side, watching the glitter blur of each slow revolution. Skeletal love-torn hymns that  waltz to their own heartbeat. This Mortal Coil.  An ice-crisp voice that seems to live behind your eyelids; but only when you close them. The ritual of elegant decay that is only revealed through timelapse video – even that Nine Inch Nail one for Hurt showing a rotting fox carcass in reverse. Victoria Legrand purring “Your wish is my command” on Wedding Bell, pulling the melody down into an Abba daze before releasing it back into the air. Nico and Marianne Faithful and Francoise Hardy. Ignoring the glow of the day for the nightime whisper of sea and sand, knowing that only a band that name themselves Beach House would only go there at night. The wondrous, pleading sway and goosebump chill of new 
album Teen Dream. The look on your face when you hear them for the first time.
Beach House play Cardiff Arts Institute on 16 February.
