We bring the funk levels up a touch for tonight as our Saturday nights join forces with the official after party for the ‘Ya Don’t Stop’ International Breakdancing contest that will be happening earlier in the day at the Muni Arts Centre in Pontypridd.

http://yadontstop.co.uk/

We also have some extra special guests for this event.

CANTALOOP

CANTALOOP
http://www.cantaloop.co.uk/
Since releasing their Gavin Monaghan (The Editors, The Twang) produced album I.C.H.I.L.E. back in 2007, Funk fanatics Cantaloop have dropped some killer tracks such as ‘Real Thing’ (remixed by The Fun Lovin’ Criminals) and toured various festivals such as, Glastonbury, the Montreux Jazz Festival, Blue Balls Festival, Larmer Tree Festival and Ashton Court. They bridge both the festival vibe of our Saturday nights and the B Boy ethos of ‘Ya Don’t Stop’ just perfectly.

“Live stands out from the crowd. Well worth checking out… party-centric stuff!” (Mojo)

“Cantaloop’s fusion of funk and hip-hop pitches itself in a territory bounded by the free form jams of Phish and the social awareness of The Specials, tinged with the spacious blues of Eric Bibb and the dive bombing rap ‘n’ scratch of Senser.” (Logo)

“will make you feel good for no particular reason at all and any band that can do that has to get bigged up.” ( Blues and Soul)

Check their track ‘Psycho Stalker’

DJ DSK
http://www.djdsk.com/
Originally from Britain but now residing in China, DJ DSK first became known through his vinyl releases on Second to None Records and Electrolab Records as well as a whole series of Hip-hop, Funk and Electro mix CDs. Since moving to China he has: been a DJ representative for Numark / Akai and Alesis; helped organise the Battle of the Year China and B-boy championships of China; and sat as a judge for the DMC China competition. He has also toured extensively around India, Singapore, Thailand, Cambodia, Taiwan, Korea, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Germany and of course his native UK.

DJ JAFFA
http://www.myspace.com/djjaffa
Hip-hop properly came to Cardiff back in the early to mid 80s. The first Hip-hop jam was on Queen Street when DJ Jaffa, a breakdancer since 1982 and DJ since 85, plugged his decks into Rudis Donut Store and invited any budding MCs to jump up. Since then Jaffa has been a cornerstone of the scene. He was signed up early to Jive Records (later the home of Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears) alongside MC Eric (who would go on to join Technotronic and eventually become Me One) and has since DJ’d and produced for the likes of Keisha White, 365, E Dro, Tystion, Bench, Manchild and The Simpsons (yup as in Homer, Bart, etc). He currently holds the UK record for longest DJ set at 70 hours and has a never ending record bag of everything from Funk to Dubstep. A true legend and a great DJ.

As the sun has finally come out, DJ Jaffa has put together this great podcast using tracks that have Sun or Sunshine on the title.
