Seeing as ’tis the season, Wonky Disco has dug deep into its crates to offer up a festive firecracker from Spillers stalwart Dafydd – yep, he’s only gone and put together a spaced-out-funked-up-bleeporama for your listening pleasure! Moving seamlessly from the scuzzy chic of Toby Tobias, to the luxury beat making of Still Going and Shit Robot, to the emo-tech of Compuphonic – this is the sound of a man who knows his onions (and where to buy them in London 24 hours a day, fool). Pour yourself a port, turn up the stereo, and have a Christmas wig-out on us yeah?

And as if that wasn’t exciting enough, Wonky Disco can proudly reveal that our next guest to grace the Arts Institute stage will be local electronica wizard Underpass – launching his debut album ‘Disorienteering’ on Thursday 14th January (http://underpass.org.uk). As well as a live set from the man himself, we’ll be welcoming Carl ‘C++’ Morris, who will no-doubt be playing you records you dont yet know you want…

An interview with Underpass is coming after Christmas, as well as an exclusive Underpass Wonky Disco mix to celebrate the album launch. Oh, and there’ll be live visuals on the night. Result!

Wonky Disco: delicious, dissolvable dance music.

Right, so you may or may not know, but I also blog over on the Kruger Magazine website. I’ve been trying not to overlap my two blogs but… TODAY IS THE REASON FOR A MASSIVE EXCEPTION.

Two years ago today I was somewhere in Europe driving a beat up Ford transit with four Americans stashed in the back. They were Holy Hail. They were on tour with Bonde Do Role, and they had the worst luck ever. I lost my passport and the Sat Nav, they were denied access to the UK as they didn’t have the right visas, then Marina left Bonde Do Role and the rest of the tour got cancelled.

Holy Hail headed back to New York, lost a bassist and a drummer, gained a guitarist and a drummer and have just recorded a new EP.

AND YOU CAN DOWNLOAD IT HERE TOTALLY FREE!!!!

And it’s really, really great. I can’t believe it’s the same band. I downloaded it yesterday and listened to it four times on a loop out of sheer astonishment. It’s like some weird love child of No Age, Crystal Stilts and Gary Numan.

If you need anymore convincing then check this out.

Even my parents love Holy Hail.

“Just a short time ago — in a last ditch effort to supply a borrowed van with wheels to make a club gig — the four members of BLK JKS took turns hand-over-hand pushing a tire through the darkened, kinetic streets of Johannesburg, South Africa’s Soweto township. For bandmates Lindani Buthelezi, Mpumi Mcata, Molefi Makananise and Tshepang Ramoba it’s a simple and tough philosophy: every gig, everything at stake. They have shared stages in North America and Europe with artists as celebrated and disparate as Femi Kuti, Santigold, Dirty Projectors, Michael Franti and Cody Chesnutt; they have played festivals like Sasquatch and Soweto Arts Festival; and Ramoba has been celebrated by Billboard as “the best musician” at SXSW. It’s an inspiring juxtapose from that day when a Jo-burg gig hung in the balance. But to witness the frenetic energy and soaring celebration of a BLK JKS gig is to know that they have maintained that same ideology.”

We are incredibly proud to welcome BLK JKS to the CAI on 27th November, in an evening curated by Three Syllables featuring a DJ set by Midwife Crisis.
